This much is pledged to me by the surgeon and for his parents Sake I will use what little influence I have to that effect. This you can tell him is all I can say in answer to the letter he wrote to me at present. Tell Mrs. Appleton that Wm is getting along well at present and as regards the enquiry she made by Newton is that in a battle where there is many Killed that it is generally hard take more care of one than another and that they are generally burried together but Should he or any other one of the Union Co boys die either by sickness or otherwise if it is in my power I will bury them as decent as the circumstances will admit and make a proper note of the place of burial so that his friends if they wish may be enabled to get the body. As regards the enquiry that you slyly sent on the Same subject I will say that if I shold one that has to give his life in this glorious cause
