Camp Buell Louisville Ky December 8th 1861 Mrs. Sarah Davis My dear wife & Children Again I will endeavor to address you by letter informing you that I am in the enjoyment of good health hoping this will find you enjoying the same blessing. I do not know of any news that will interrest you therefore I do not know whether I will be able to fill this sheet or not but I will try I was in the City of Louisville yesterday and was in various parts of the town and I must say that it is the most beautiful town I ever was in and contains more beautiful and costly family residences of any City I have ever saw. I was in the City for two purposes, one was to Send you Some money and the other was to get me a Sash and Epalets and Some camp furniture. I sent by the American Express a package to you containing ninety dollars eighty for yourself and ten for John Walton. I would have sent you a hundred dollars only I expected to get Sash and Epalets but I could not find any in town and had expressed it before I Knew that. And I am verry glad I did not find them as I do not want to go to the expense of getting them but the Col. said I must get them but now I have a good excuse. I was going to Send you $20 00 tomorrow but W. D. Serring Sent his home yesterday and today him and the other Orderlie Sergeants concluded to get Some new uniforms and he had not money enough So I let him have the 20 I was going to send to you as I thought perhapse you could get along until the
