Camp Wicklif Ky Jan 10th 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis My dear Wife Yours of the 5th Inst came to hand night before last and I was much surprised to hear that you had not heard from me for 10 days as I have written 2 or 3 with in that time. I wrote one to you the night before I got yours, I was truly glad to hear that you ware all in good heath. I am well and hearty and I hope I shall remain so. We (I mean those that are with me in the woods) are all well and Stovall is getting better and is considered entirely out of danger, and so far there is no sign of any of the others taking it from him. Dr Missy visits us evry day morning and evening and appears to take a great deal of interrest in our wellfare So I hope that by his attention and ourselves being very attentive to our health the Contagion will scatter no further It seems so queer that while it is so cold at home it is warm enough here for to do without fire in our tents nearly all day, and so far we have had no snow only what little was on the ground when I first come to Louisville There was some Sleet on the ground a few morning since but it was all gone before noon. I am sorry to hear you had such hard falls on the sleet, but hope your hurts ware only slight. Tell Newton I am much obliged to him for being so kind as to help you up when you fell. As regards building fires in the cold mornings I am truly sorry I am not able to be there to do it for you but circumstances are so that I cannot for the time being but hope to be sometime. I am Sorry that Beard did not buy the mare as I want her sold but perhapse Miner will buy her and if he does See that it is made safe if he does not pay the money. The Saddle I paid 12 dollars for and it was new when
