In Camp 5 Miles from Corinth Tenn. May 14th 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis My dear Wife You see by this that I am not dead and will say further that I never enjoyed better health in my life Therefore I hope this will dispell your uneasiness in regard to my being sick and I will say now before going any further that hereafter I do not want you to immagine hereafter that I am sick when it is a long time between letters as it has been with my letters lately, for I assure you that if I get sick or wounded I will immediately let you know it or come home. And if I am not able to write myself I will get some one els to write for me I have wrote 2 or 3 letters to you since the Battle of Shilo but it appears that up to the 30th of April none of them have reached you which is the date of the last I have heard from you, I received one from you of the 25th of April. by mail and the one of the 30th ult. by the hands of Lamar Lee, who returned to his Regiment on Saturday and I saw him on Sunday morning for a few minutes only as we ware just Starting on a march and I have not saw him since as our duties are verry severe now and we have but little time to spend in visiting and receiveing visits I did not know he was here until he come to me that moring. You cannot immagine the pleasure it gave me to hear that you and the children ware enjoying good health. The time seems long between letters from you and it seems as though I get yours oftener than you do mine as it appears that you do not get mine at all, but still I will keep writing as often as I get an oportunity and perhapse some of them will reach you. I presume you are all liveing in great expectations of hearing of a great
