In Camp Near McMinnville Tenn August 27th 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis My dear wife Our Regiment Brass Band has been discharged and the members are going to Start home this afternoon and I will avail myself of the few minutes that will elapse before they start to drop you a few lines as I do not know when I will have another chance of sending you a letter as our mail matter has stopped both going and comeing for several days past but why it is so I cannot tell unless it is because the Rebs have cut off our communications between Louisville and Nashville. I have received no letter from you for 8 or 10 days and I presume you have received none from me the same length of time. I wrote you one about 6 days since, and put it in the Office but dont know whether it has ever started or not. Since that time I have
