sleep be the bugle calling to arms and ware told to pack up immediately and by 1 Oclock we ware on the move towards McMinnsville and when within 2 miles of that place we turned to the right and took a road that leads along the base of the mountain which brought us within 2 1/2 miles of our camp that we had left that morning, then took the road again towards Altomount, and encamped Sunday night at the foot of the mountain. Monday morning we went to the top of the mountain and halted and then sent men to help bring up the Artillery which the horses ware unable to get up themselves owing to the steepness of the road. By 3 Oclock we had it all up (12 pieces in all) and then started on and when we had got within 2 miles of Altomont we bout faced and marched back again to foot of the mountain or in other words we marched up the hill and then marched down again and encampled in the same place we had the night before.
