by way of Murfreesborough, Nashville and to Bowling Green where we halted for 2 days and while there Bragg arrived at Glasscow from which place he made his descent on Munfordville and captured what forces we had there and of which you have heard the particulars. He then concentrated his whole force and appeared to await Buell to attact him, and he (Buell) moved forward for the purpose of doing So, and halted at Cave City 12 miles from Bowling Green, and awaited to get his forces consolidated which was done by Sunday morning last when he moved forward in line of battle to make the attact and arrived in front of the town at 4 Oclock in the evening but found only the rear guard of the enemy there to oppose us which ware soon routed by our Cavalry and Artillery. We lost one man Killed and 4 wounded The enemy lost Lieut Col. Brown and one private Killed Sixteen wounded and 60 Men prisoners besides about 500 who ware wounded (by our men at their gallant but unsuccessful resistance a few days before of the place) who ware in the hospital. Bragg had made a bold dash for Nashville and Monday we ware after him, but he had too much the Start for us to overtake him. When he arrived near Elizabeth town he left the road and took across the country to Bards town. While we Kept Straight on the road to the Ohio River which we reached at West point 20 miles below here. This movement put us ahead of Bragg and we come on to Louisville while it is said that he is moveing towards Lexington or some other point towards the interior of the State. Many are grumbleing and censureing Buell for not attacting him in the
