In camp on the mountain 6 miles from Chatanooga Ten Aug. 27' 1863 Mrs. Sarah Davis My dear wife On Sunday morning the 16" inst I received yours of the 10" inst but before I got it read we ware ordered to march and I have had no chance of writing until tonight since that time, neither have we had any mail since that time until tonight we got a mail and by it I received H. Husteds of the 20" inst. containg some slips from the Herald. after leaveing Pelham. four days march brought us to the Sequasha Valley. and there we left all of our baggage except a gum blanket for each of us and 8 days rations. and then come to the top of this mountain and are encamped immediately on the rocky bluff some 600 feet above the valley in which is situated the town of Chatanooga and I must say it is by far the most romantic sight I ever saw
