Helena Ark. Dec. 12th 1862 My Dear little Sister This is a rainy day and I have leisure time which I will improve by writing you a little letter. I received your kind letter almost two weeks ago You will please pardon me for not writing sooner. the day after I received your letter we wer called to go on an expedition in to Mississippi we wer gone eleven days it was a very interesting trip, We wer under command of Gen. Houey there was a bout ten thousand in all two thousand Cav. we wer put on boats and went down the river ten miles and landed we then started on our first Scout in to Mississippi. we traveled nearly east untill we came to
