it was not mutch only one hundred and eighty pound to our regiment but the principal grinds down on the soldier hard - the query often arises in my mind -- will we be able to to conquer the rebbellion while such roton harted men as old Gorman and others hold Command of the army -- I fear not - you that are at home see only the Bright side things go to the world with a different face to what they realy were we see things as they are -- and the only wonder to me is that we have been as successfull as we have there is greate complaint among the soldiers because they are not paid more promtly nearly six months due our regiment now while swindling contractors are permited to drain the treasure the soldier in the field fails to git his hard earned mite -- but perhaps it will all be right after while - One thing is certain our three years will come to and end. The weather has been quite cold for a few days some snow Sabbath and heavy frost monday morning -- the timber is green the fruit trees in full bloom -- spring with all its beauty is here -- yet the Country looks desolate the destroyer of Nations has been and is now here -- war I remain your obediently Wm. Mann
