Helena arks Twelve oclock May 28th/63 I thought that I would write a few lines more their was 5 thousand 5 hundred rebel Prisoners from Vicksburg went up to St Louis this morning. Their was news came up from Vicksburg this morning. Capt Bowen says is good news But we do not know the [pertic?] I still hop for some deffainit news By tomorr morning I hope the destruction of the city I have not herd a word from the 4th Cav. since they left milt & ashel Promised to write to me. We still here of the coperheads of Fremont Co I tell you when we soldiers Return we will Retaliate we will never let them live in our county that Rebel that insults our familys our neighnors in short our union friends. I hop to see the day when the last one of them will be troden or Stricken down to rise no more till the are Reserected at the last day I never want a Rebel or a Rebel simpthiser to live close to me they are now my Biterest Enemys the are worse then the Rebels of the South for while the are injoying the quiet at home living under the protection of our government & at the same time the are ploting for the South giving them all the information that the can to cause our destruction such men as these I would rather shoot then any Rebel of the south for the have no reason to be that kind of men & the prospect is good very Bright now for the close of this Bloody & unholy war may God Speed the time when we will return to our homes
