Scott you may wonder how Comp A was so mutch more cut up than other Comps. to learn this I had a privit conversation with the Major that Commanded and I asked him why it was - his reply was they stood right up to the work and no men ever fought better than Comp A did I have no news to write - we are still beseiging Vicksburg - slowly gaining ground on the enemy - some probability of an attact on our rear - we are prepared for it and can whip a hundred thousand rebbles in the rear and hold Vicksburg at the same time the army has all confidence in their ability to hold their position I must Close your obediently Wm.
