run the shanty ourslves and do big business we are keeping tavern there is two Co of our reg here one is quartered in the Court house and we are in a sesesion tavern stand we have all the fruit and vegitables we Can use just for carying it away the sesesh. is out in the woods but we Cant find them. they are driving the union men away from there homes and killing them and in a while we send out Scouting parties every day they had a young battle here 2 weeks before we came. there was 100 sesesh against 15 union men it is amusing to hear the darkies tell how the sesesh run after the first fire there is agreat many slaves here and they know what is going on to. they are tickeld fit to kill about the soldiers they give there masters thunders behind there back write as soon as you get this no more at present but remains your brother John McDowell you need not bother about any money for me now as we will get paid of the last of this month and we will have enough of stamps to do us till them
