our boys followed them 10 or 15 miles but could not do any thing with them the next morning the cavelry started on persuit had an ingagement of four hours but they had to retreat in the eving we started out formed on the hill 2 miles of the fort but we had not been there long when the rest came in so we was marched back to the fort at 9 0clock went to bed but at 12 we was called out as we expected for battle but [alass?] aretreat to Fort Lincoln adistance of 12 mi this fort has been built with in two weeks we got there on tuesday staid untill saturday night when we was marched to camp Williams at the aboved name place we got here about 12 when we laid down in the fence corners and slept till morning when we pitched tentt on a very pretty pastre it is 7 miles from Lincoln
