861561 Detachment of 7th regt Iowa Vol St louis Mo Oct 11th / 61 Dear brother I received your letter yester day enclosed with Wm McCucheon we are all well but what is sick and not more than half of us is sick 59 is under the doctors care 5 or 6 has the fever and the rest has the measles they are at the hospital we have not heard from the measle hospital since we came here Stewart Glasgow and I was down yesterday to see the boys at the fever hospital they are all on the mend except one the name of mathews Sam Black is able to walk around and is all right in in his head again he was awful crazy when he had the fever he talks of going home on furlough till he gets well he says the doctor will give him a furlough but I do not think he can John glasgow is mending slowly Sameul is going to take him home monday it is 8 miles to the hospital and through the city all the way we rode there and back on the street car it cost the small sum of one dime John Thomas and Henry Gilland is in the measle hospital we got marching orders to go the regt but our officers thought it better to wait a few days till the boys would get wel
