863216 Camp of the 9th., P.R.C March the 16th. 1863 Miss Mcdowell & Mr Braden your leter of the 6th. was duly recived I was very glad to hear from you indeed as it was the first time that I have heard from any of you for more than a year I did not know that Suert was away playing soldiers I would rather heard of him being at home I never was so sory as when my Brother James went but it cant be helpt now I hope he may have as good luck in the Batles as I have had Arthur was in Washington City on the 9th and I was there the same day and did not see him. I would have given all I had in the world to have seen him. we are campt 6 miles from the City and we have good times and in hope we may be kept here untill our time is out we only have 13 months longer to Stay that will soon slip around. well you must give my respects to your Father & Mother & Mary & all the rest but be sure to keep a good share for your self and tell Dave Braden that i was very hoping to hear from him i had lost all account of him and allmost evry body else in that part - but hope I may live to come back there and se you all onst more in this World I hope this inhuman war will soon come to an untimely End for there has been innocent men enough Killed just to accomodate a few whelps that are the Cause of it all
