they got up a kind of a celebration in Marengo the fourth we went down but I did not enjoy it one bit till in the evening I enjoyed looking at the fire works they had a company of scalawags but I did not think it was right when our country is in so much danger the folks were all well down there then. Addie and Mat Bradford are coming up a week from tomorrow to see me I have not been down home but once since I came up hear 11 week I have been down to Mrs. Simmons several times she is the same as old [fresh?] as ever she says I am just as mean as I was when you went away. the time has not seemed as long as I thoug it would not as long perhaps as it would if I stayed in one place all the time We went a fishing and a boat riding one saturday we had a pleasant time my pleasure wood have been completed if you could have been along I dreamed last night you were hear and Oh how glad I was but I was disappoin I wish you would come home on furlough if you can not get a discharge but I shall have to get another sheet of paper as I am answering two letters at once
