Received marching orders - embarked on board the Rose Hambleton and started down the River FRIDAY 17 Last night about 11 oclock our boat was run into by the Lasalle and came very near sinking her - no lives lost SATURDAY 18 Started a letter to Amy Shearer We have arrived within ten miles of Vicksburg Read a letter from home
