TUESDAY, MAY 19, 1863. Left our camp at the battle ground and marched toward Vicksburg - crossed Black river and camped for the night - Heavy cannonading in the direction of Vicks. WEDNESDAY 20 Left our camp on Big Black and marched towards Vicksburg - 16 miles from the city Camed 3 miles of Vicksburg fighting all day THURSDAY 21 17th in line of battle before the rebel works got a letter from John & Laben Shearer laid all night 3/4 of a mile of the Rebel works
