September Sat 12 we heard heavy cannonading about 6 miles up the river, I was over the river talking with the Johnies Sun 13 we had A few showers of rain Mon 14th I road out in the country and got peaches tues 15th I had corn for dinner and supper and was hunting squirrels weds 16 we went to the church (Heartwood Church) Thurs 17th we crossed the river and attacted the rebs at brandy station and drove them 2 miles beyond Culpepper C,H.
