October Thirs 8 the day was fine and we had our horses saddled all day Fry 9th " " " " " " " " Sat 10 we went out to within A mile or so of James City and the rebs attacted us with artilery fighting all day at A long range But the skirmishing was pretty heavy all day Sun 11 Last night we went out on the skirmish line and came back in the morning at day light, We then fell back to Culpepper whare the rebs comenced closeing
