1864 in the "Europa" July 9th Left Liverpool at 10.50 A.M The "Great Eastern" is to leave in the evening for London there to take in the Atlantic Cable. We have on board the 1st mate of the "Alabama" & an officer of the "Kearsage" July 10th Sunday. arrived at Queenstown at 12 noon, went ashore, came on board with the mails at 3.30 P.M. From this time we have favorable N.E. winds & under canvass make on an average 10 knots. we make about 250 miles a day & our time is about 1/2 an hour slower every day; it is worthy of note that we do not keep a direct & uniform compass course for Halifax but steer to the N. of such a line. Captain of the "Europa". J. Anderson tonnage-----1208 tons
