July 23rd Visited the cemetary at Mount Aubin, it is a most extensive place & arranged in good taste the monuments are generally simple & it seems to be the custom for a man to buy a certain portion of land & be burried with his wife & children in it often he makes a monument to his wife & little ones each of the same pattern to his children round it. there are few crosses & no common shaped stones some of the tombs are vaults with a grating through which you can see shelves for the different bodies, they dont care much about dates & 'Mother' 'Father' 'May' &c. are often the only inscriptions
