asked such a question by a young man indeed he asked me at once where I came from He afterwards explained to me that there was a very little attention payed to religion in Boston every one was occupied in making money indeed now most of the churches are shut up for the summer "the ministers have as good country places as their parishioners" He turned out to be a "Fire-eater" he said the catholic religion was the thing he most feared for his country. he was a native of Luisiana, an inhabitant of Baltimore yet though not opposed to slavery & though his friends were confederates he ardently wished for the restoration of the Union, he has been sent to be educated at a Monastry
