would have chosen. this is 130 miles from Quebec. here we anchored & weighed at 2.30 A.M. when a fog came on thick & we had to anchor in mid stream at 30 fathoms in one of the few anchoring places of the Saguenay for this river is so deep that there are only a few place & all along you can go within easy stones throw of the nearly perpendicular banks. on these rocks chains are fixed so that vessels may make fast to them when they cannot anchor. There are two bays besides Ha Ha bay where a landing can be made but with the exception of these it would be impossible to effect a landing, that is you might jump on to the rocks & come
