August 5th Went in the evening to Mr Forsyth's house about 7 miles out of Quebec. Such hospitality as he showed is truly wonderful merely seeing us in his office coming for money he asks us out to see his house there we are supplied with croquet & hear songs sung, really such frank hospitality might be imitated with advantage in England. Walked round the plains of Abraham where are Wolf's & Montcalms monuments. There is a monument to both together in the public gardens. The fortifications are said to be very much falling into decay in places. Mr. Forsyth does a large business
