August 8th Went to see the Victoria Bridge it is built on 25 piers & is tubular & has a rise of about 30 feet in the centre owing to its immense length. The tube looks very light & small & this gives it quite a graceful appearance. Its length I believe to be 1 1/4 miles, some say it is 3000 yds. Drove round the mountain in the afternoon, but it was a hazy day for it. We noticed the machines on the G.T.R. for throwing the snow off the line, there are two different kinds. (two sketches) Population of Montreal about 120,000 Quebec---------- 50,000
