August 27th I noticed on the American side a curiosity shop (store I beg pardon) it was half full of Derbyshire Alabaster vases & goods. 28th Sunday Went to a little church about a mile off. English service. 29th Left in the morning for Buffalo which is a large straggling city of about 150,000 doing a very extensive trade on account of the Erie Canal business left for Cleveland O. in the evening per steamer (a screw with very disagreeable motion). It is nearly impossible to tell these lakes from the sea they have their regular waves & I think tides. arr. Cleveland. 30th at 11 A.M. At Buffalo noticed a wooden figure tail coat & roll in his hand Mr. --- Attorney at law
