Left in the evening by the steamer (screw) Dean Richmond stuck on the sand coming out of the harbour for a long time & had to be towed off, the motion of this steamer is not disagreeable like the Cleveland one was. stopped 6 or 7 hours to wood at N Manitou I [stand?] they were desperately slow about it & I must say did it very clumsily I noticed them driving their teams of oxen over log & round a wheelbarrow in the most reckless way when one would have thought it would have been much shorter to wheel away the barrow.
