Sep 28th There was a frost this morning so much so that when I threw out some water as I got up in the morning it had frozen on the window sill before I had done dressing. All the time we have been here it has been very cold except once in the middle of the day when the sun came out strong & there was no wind. one time we noticed the thermometre in the middle of the day 46[degrees]. The country round is all primitive forest, Potatoes grow very well here. There have been at least 6 steamers going up since we have been here but only one going down till to-day
