General Sherman took his Stand Just Across the Street from us, the Old Gentleman Looked well pleased and was bowing to Almost all that passed. I also had the pleasure of seeing Secretary Stanton and Q.M.G. Meegs who had arrived the Evening before on board the Ocean Steamer Crescent. Mr. Stanton is a fine Looking old man, of about fifty and Resembles Wm..L. Ewing of St Louis very much, I believe I have given you all the news that I have now, but as I have plenty of time now I will write to you again in a fiew days. I have my work all finished for the year 1864. Consequently the next fiew weeks will not push me much. I am Informed this Evening by General, Rico that Major, Sample is assigned to duty under General Thomas, this I hope is not true for I was in hopes Jim, would get back to Shermans Army once more J.B. Morrison has been appointed Sutler of the 66 Indiana the 66" belongs to our Brigade and is a no 1 Regiment it is a good appointment for Jo, Hope he will arrive soon with a fine stock of goods., I must Close will write again in a fiew days, the weather is fine and warm I can work all day without a Coat on or fire in my Tent Believe me Ever Your affectionate Husband Frank Malcom [Vertically, from bottom left:-] Excuse the closing of this I will write soon again and I hope Have some good news for you, Frank
