H'd.. Qrs 7th,, Iowa V. V. Inft Near Goldsboro N.C. Mar 29" 65 My dear Wife I have in the last three days Recieved six of your kind and welcom letters and I assure you they were welcom visitors for I never in my life wanted news as bad as I did on our arrival at this place I had been over two months without a line for you, yours of Feby 27th.. mailed at Bentonsport is the latest date from home I also Recieved a letter from John one from [Luther] one from Johney Hamilton and one from Em Malcom. John is well and has a good place he is in the Brigade Commissary Department was offered a furtough home but as his time was so near out concluded it would not pay him to accept it, which I think was a wise Conclusion his three years will expire next August. I am feeling much better than I did on our arrival at this place, I was not sick but the Campaign was a very hard one and I was almost worn out, we were fifty six days out from Savannah to Goldsboro, and a great portion of the time wading swamps, sometimes Knee deep and often to our necks, I am surprised that the men stood the trip as well as they did, the Campaign from Rome to Savannah was fun compared
