I have not heard from Col" Mayer yet and now that the war is over and all Recruiting stopped, I suppose he will not be able to fill up his Regt, which will put an end to my prospects in that direction. I did not wish to return home without a Commission, but If I am mustered out by July next the time will have been well spent and the pay good. Our trip from Raleigh to this place was a very pleasant one with the exception of the hard marching we marched from eighteen to thirty miles pr day. passed through a beautiful Country had good roads & fine weather, we are now encamped on the ground occupied by the 6th.. Army Corps. Their are but fiew Potomac troops here and what their are put on quite a lot of style. Johns Corps the "6" is now at Danville Va so I will not get to see him unless they are sent to washington. our Corps will be in Alexandre by the 18th.. the weather permitting: will then write you again my health is very good am resting this forenoon, & Entend to visit the City & principle forts this afternoon Remember me to all our friends & write to your husband Frank Malcom
