The weather was quite warm and the roads often very dusty, our Division would often march thirty miles a day. The march from Raleigh to Petersburg was made in five & a Half days distance one hundred & sixty three miles. we was in camp near Manchister Va. two days, while their I visited Libby Prison Castle Thunder & Bell Isle, the three Rebel Prisons in the City of Richmond our Corps passed through Richmond on Review the 13th.. inst. It is now reported that all Veteran Regts will be held to serve out their term of three years & all others Discharged immiediately but we do not yet Know what will be done with us, I would like to be discharged now the war is over I am very anxious to get Home. Hope in a fiew days to be able to give you more information on that subject, will write you again as soon as I can. Recd.. yours of the 23d.. yesterday also Plain Dealer & Gate City Direct to Washington D.C. & write often to Your Ever, Affectionate Husband Frank Malcom
