Sweet Milk Cake. 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. butter beaten to a cream; add 1 c. sweet milk 2 1/2 c. flour 1 c. raisins 1 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 tsp. soda both sifted '/c the flour, 1/2 tsp each of cinnamon & cloves. Pour in a baking tin & bake in a moderate oven. Doughnuts 1 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. sweet milk 1/2 tsp. soda 1 Tsp. sugar 1/2 c. sour cream 2 Tbsp. melted butter 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder Add flour until dough can be easily handled, cut & fry in smoking hot fat, drain on paper & sugar when cold. Lemon Pie Mix 1 c. sugar '/c 2 tbsps. cornstarch, cook in a double boiler '/c 1 c. hot water until transparent, then add 2 tbsps. melted butter, beat & just before removing from the fire, add the grated rind & juice of 1 lemon. This may be used for a cake filling. When used for pie bake between 2 crusts.
