13" At 8 AM we moved out going east and [ ] through a miserable poor waterless country. The soil was white sand and covered with a [ ] growth of [scrub-oak?] with an occasional pine People all very poor and by the way, mean enough looking to be rebels. so for [awhile?] we have seen no more than a half dozen able-bodied men between 16 and 60 and wonder where their next [ ] of [ ] is to be raised Saw two men and a boy to-day Gen Baird reported to have killed a "spy" yesterday [Illegible] 3 1/2 [illegible] we camped by Fiddle-pond and [?]
