Water here is very scarce. the land very loose and sandy. and the timber scrub-oak with a few pine Cooking and warming by these pine fires cause us to look so many charcoal burners. We look rougher than ever before in our lives 15" Got on the road early, our B_ in advance, and made good time all day. halting at dark having marched about 19 miles. Bore to the left of Columbia and are now a few miles from Lexington. Guess we are to intercept any force that may be coming from Augusta, Our 1" & 2" Div are where they are needed while our Div is with Corps
