(Added note at head of page:-) Are living on parched corn at this time Forage scarce captured. The 17 boy buried before we started out, Waited until the train passed then took the rear at 11 AM, Marched slowly to Lexington [C?], 18, the County Seat of Lexington district and lay in the road until 4 P.M, then moved 4 1/2 miles on the Columbia road and went into camp after dark, Lexington was a tolerable little place, and slightly damaged by our men, Our 1" & 2" Div got to L__ by forced marches to cut off reinforcements from Augusta to C__, "Kill" moved past us to the left of L. Saw the first stores to day for 3 months, The Country becoming quite broken.
