The Broad & Saluda rivers form the Congaree, Days march about 5 miles. Forage plenty. We are sorry that we cannot see Columbia as we are leaving it to the right quite a distance 19th. Had a good long sleep this morning, the Pontoon not being clear. As soon as the 2" Div got across, we struck tents and followed. The 1st. Div remained behind with the train. We found Broad-river some 200 yds wide but very shallow, with quite a strip of bottom land on the N- side and very high ground beyond. We found a main road some 1500 yds north and took off Westward. Found
