Programme of the day resumed at 1.45 P.M.
Mrs. Van Alstine gave report on the last meeting of the National American Womans
Suffrage Association in which Mrs. Catt gave a somewhat detailed report of her steward-
ship of the Leslie legacy of one million eight hundred thousand dollars and gave reason
why the National A. W. S. A. could not absolutely dissolve and be no more.  These reasons were
several - The business with the Leslie Commission is not completed also two other legacies had
been bequeathed to Mrs. Catt in her capacity as head of the old Suffrage Association and there
may be other bequests not so far reported.  In two states legal proceeding are still under
consideration concerning the legality of the Susan B. Anthony ammendment and the
National could not well dissolve until these maters are entirely cleared away.  As the Papers of
Incorporation run till 1940 there seems ample time to complete all this business
The old National brand was re-elected and given power to perpetuate itself and to
all matters of interest to the National American Women Suffrage Association.
It is quite unlikely that another national convention of the organization will
ever be called but if Mrs. Catt should ever deem it advisible she could call
such a convention.  Mrs. Shuler of New York gave a most interesting account
of things accomplished in the year 1920 for women.
Mrs. McCormick reported the Geneva convention of of the International Womans Suffrage Alliance.
which was one of the interests that made it necessary that this N.A.W.S.A. continue its
activities -- It in fact seemed the real heart of this matter - Mrs. Catt now
freed from her life long effort to [illegible] suffrage in America will be able to ser
the women of the world in even a larger way and help to keep alive
