Receipt for an Ague 3/4 of an oz of the best red bark one table spoonfull of ground black pepper, one table spoonful of Lisbon sugar a large nutmeg grated, 40 drops of syrup of poppies, mix together with rum to the thickness of an electuary, & take the size of a large nutmeg every four hours till the whole is taken, & at the end of ten days repeat the same again. N.B. an emetic must be given before this medicine is begun, it ought to be taken the evening of the day
