Omaha January 28th 1864 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir I sent by Express yesterday the Profiles from the North Line of this Township by way of Florence to the intersection of the Northern Line - also profile of Line up the Pappilon from Paddocks grove to the intersection - shall send to day the Line along the River up to Desoto - The Florence and the Desoto Lines are impracticable the former from the Elevation of the country back of it, and the depth of the valleys you can not avoid crossing, the latter from the fact that the River between two and three miles washes a Bluff about 100 feet high and almost perpendicular where a road bed could only be sustained by a heavy retaining wall without the material to build it. the Pappilon valley route as the profile shows is very favorable and with the exception of the increased
