Omaha January 9th 1863 T.C. Durant Esq Dear Sir As soon as the weather moderates I will run the line north from Florence - for the last three weeks the weather has been the most severe I have ever known - the mercury standing as low as twenty below zero in the middle of the afternoon with high winds blowing, so that it has been impossible to keep our parties out without freezing - I can get a very good line from Florence up the valley to Desoto but have examined and tried those brakes below and find the country impracticable. The northern line you will find by putting the same prices that we have on our work will exceed it largely in cost besides requiring a large bridge over Fish Creek - the same amount on the Pappillon and the additional Bridges over Belle Creek and Rawhide - We have had no mail from the last since the 25th of December
