New Years Eve. Jan 1 1868-9 had been very disagreeable snowing fast, all day it was damp, cool, sometimes snowing snowed some this morning O last night at twelve the old year died, at the same time the New Year came in to existence. O year what have you in store for us is it joy, or grief, gladness or sorrow, Peace or tempest, will we be tossed on life's troubled waves or will thy peace & tranquility wave over our heads, though we may be tossed by the tempest we have that anchor which enteres in that which is that within the vail. O year one day has passed of thine. The future hides all others in the future hides it in booth joy or sorrow. May sweet, may peace they sweet companion be And all thy May peace thy sweet companion be, And blessings all thy paths attend, Each sorrow from thy bosome flee And bliss (persiseth?) to the end.
