Dr Melons Recipe for a Cough It is a very excellent one Take a large Tea-cup full of linseed. Two ounces of [stick?] - liquorice a quarter of a pound of stoned raisons put this into three quarts of water simmer it over a slow fire untill it is reduced one half. Then add a quarter of a pound of brown sugar candy reduced to powder. To this add a table spoonfull of old Rum and a table spoonfull of white-wine vinegar (or of lemon juice. Take notice the proper porportion of rum and vinegar may as well be added to each dose when taken. For Rheumatism when fixed on a particular part Make a Poultice with flowers of Mustard put it on a [cloath?] and apply it to the part. If it blisters or causes much pain as it is apt to do Take it off and shake a little dry mustard on the part and wrap it in flannels. It has sometimes done wonders For Cancerous Ulcers and [Turbutic?] Eruptions on the skin Take of wood-[coat?] a Table spoonfull in a pint of water half-an hour. Then strain it and let this lotion be applied four or five times a day Let the following drops be taken at the same time. Take Muriated quicksilver ten grains Muriated acid - ten drops Sweet spirits of Nitro one Ounce of these drops take twenty in a little tea or ale after breakfast and supper Eye water Take zinc and salt + [illegible] of each in powder a quarter of an ounce [illegible] [aloe?] it rain water one pint. Wash the Eyes frequently Tar Bean good in Consumptions Take 3 quarts of pure water one quart of wheat-bran one pint of tar and half a pint honey. Let it simmer over a slow fire for three hours in a new stone [vessel?] when cold add half a pint brewers yeast commonly called barm let it stand 30 hours it is then fit for use. Keep it in cool place Take a wine glass full before each meal. To Stop Bleeding in Horses mouths when they have been Lanced Take the white of an Egg + [Soot?] apply it to the cut
