Fort Desmoin Iowa Dec 12th 143 Dear Doct I Recd your epistle last night being up here on business will attend to your & before I galacts. all well as usual except my Self Suffering with cold and pain in my breast for a few days back., the practice is very dull at present, not doing any thing at all I will give you Some detail of my house swapping time I have been here. when I first came to Dudly I gave thirty four Dollars he was rather old I then traded him for a fine tooking brown horse and gave tin Dollars to boot. he goot lame as Soon as I got him. I was offered Sixty five Dollars over again but would not take it,, he failed so fast that we thought he would die, he was no account at all. I then traded him for a little roan mare that looked splendid she got lame also I then traded her for a bay horse, which is with out any doubt the buest horse in the County. gave fiften Doll to boot and now I Shall play gents all lame & Wind except the last I got rather an amusing letter from Father latt week which is so absurd that I shall not answer it. it was in refference to a report about me and matrimony all that I have to say on that Subject is that when I see propper to make Engagements
