140 Nov. 1936 (continued). The first time that Sioux City entertained the convention, was 50 years ago, 1886. The delegates to go to Washington D. C. will be selected by the Executive Board. A plea was made by Mrs. Leacock for a united effort, as county Presidents. Visitors to the convention at Sioux City had the opportunity to see a film on Ethel-Alcohol at the Orpheum Theatre. This film is produced by the Northwestern University. The film cost the University-$9000.00. "Facts" to show the effects of alcohol. 10500 local unions can control Congress and clean up movies. 70% of Keely patients are housewives. 60% due to drinking. The greater part of the drinking is done by women. The Thursday morning devotionals were by Mrs. Arnold. "I think the Christians as a mass are not living the victory our Leader intended. "The life of the Champion depends on you." "Keep up membership and send in our dollars." "They are publishing at a deficit." There were 700 people at the banquet. 60c plate Visitors as well as delegates. "Sioux City treated us grand." Mr. W. D. Hayes, the Mayor of Sioux City, was there. He made a wonderful address. The Woodbury County Supt. of Schools is putting out a book of her own about alcohol-education. Before prohibition there was 178000 saloons in U.S.A. Now there are 555000. 729 permits in Iowa. Congressman Gillette and family do not take wine. Tamlin and Tamlin of New York City sent their agent to the convention to put on the five-point-star campaign. Congress has appropriated $10,000.00 for the W.C.T.U. convention at Washington D. C. At the close of the November meeting, tea
