202 April 1943. W. C. T. U. MEETS WITH MRS. A. W. McBLAIN The Women's Christian Temperance Union met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. A. W. McBlain. The president, Mrs. George Mitchell, presided. A letter written by Mrs. William Molison to the Des Moines Register was read by Mrs. Clara Watland. The devotionals were in the cahrge of Miss Edna Sherman. The W.C.T.U. met April 20 with Mrs. A. W. McBlain. Miss Sherman had the devotionals, our sick members receiving special mention. Mrs. Loose read from the Christian Century, a letter to President Roosevelt, by Rev. Lewis N. Stuckey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Some discussion was held about having a meeting for the public at which Mrs. McBlain would speak on "The Amazing Story of Repeal." No definate date was set. Some discussion was held about a Mothers' Day Mass Meeting for Service Men. Voted to hold the meeting A com. composed of Mrs. McBlain, Mrs. Stewart, Miss Sherman and Mrs. Mitchell, appointed to make out the details. A letter from Mrs. William Molison of Malcom written to the Des Moines Register was read. Offering $1.10 Nellie Lincoln, Secy. pro tem. Addenda: At our request, the Herald-Register of Grinnell re-preinted in full, Thursday, May 27 - 1943, the article by Lewis N. Stuckey, under the title: "The Rest is Silence." Addenda: Died, April 20, 1943, at 2:10 P.M., at her home, Mrs. O. W. Park, long a member of the W.C.T.U. Mrs. Carrie R. Park was a member of the Congregational Church, a life-member of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of that Church. She was born Sept. 27, 1857, in Grinnell. Her parents, William and Loretta (Hubbard) Beaton came from Ohio, June, 1855, about a year after the town was established. She was christened Caroline Ruth Beaton, Nov. 7, 1858 by Rev. J. B. Grinnell. She was married Jan. 19, 1878 to Oliver Winslow Park who was b. June 7, 1849, Searsport Harbor, Maine, and who died at his home in Grinnell Dec. 4, 1930. Mrs. Park is survived by three children and four grandchildren. Her sixth greatgrandchild was born Sept. 22, 1943, and named Carolyn in her memory.
