June 1948. Article Clipping: Special Meeting Sunday, 3 P.M., First Friends Church A Meeting of special interest to all is to be held next Sunday, June 20th at 3 p.m. in the First Friends church, when Mrs. Jessie Earhart, state director of scientific temperance instruction, and Miss Lela Trowbridge, who attended the summer seminar at Evanston, Ill., last year and is a specialist in her line, will be present and speak. Visual demonstrations of the effect of beverage alcohol will be given. Plans for promoting the work of the Youth Temperance Council and of the Iota Sigma societies will be explained. All young people are urged to attend. Pastors of Grinnell churches are especially invited to be present that they may know what is being planned to help the youth of Grinnell. Everyone is invited. Article Clipping: YOUTH TEMPERANCE COUNCIL WILL MEET The Youth Temperance Council, a new organization in Grinnell, will meet Monday, June 28, at 8:00 o'clock in the Northside Friends parsonage. Teen-age and older boys and girls are invited. Article Clipping: DEMONSTRATIONS GIVEN AT FIRST FRINDS CHURCH Mrs. Jessie Earhart, state director of scientific temperance instruction, and Miss Lela Trowbridge of Oskaloosa, gave a visual demonstration at the First Friends church Sunday afternoon teaching the harmful effects of alcohol used in the body. They also showed the usefulness of alcohol in making varnishes, plastics and film. A flannelgraph showed how to teach little children in an entertaining way, and displays showed the damage done by alcoholic beverages. Article Clipping: WCTU WILL MEET WITH MRS. INMAN The W.C.T.U. will meet at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, June 15, in the home of Mrs. Harlan Inman, 1027 West street. Members are asked to note change of meeting place. Handritten Text Underneath: The WCTU met June 15, with Mrs. Harlan Inman, the president presiding. Mrs. Manson gave the lesson, and also talked about the nominees for Governor of Iowa. As lieutenant-governor appoints the committees. We have eleven dry states. The treasurer was not present. Mrs. Mc.B. said this May meeting was "a good meeting". Also announced that a workshop, conducted by Mrs. Jessie Earhart and Miss Lela Trowbridge would be held at the South Side Friend's Church at 3 P.M. She said that a week ago she invited some young folk to her house. She asked them if they would like to have a Youth Temperance Council, with the motto, "A Good Time with a Purpose". for those of age from 13 to 39. They would take the triple pledge. The dues would be 25¢ per year each. (A Senior YTC would have 25¢ dues. An Iota Sigma would be $1_00 per year each.) Mrs. McBlain asked that we pray for an YTC. Motion was made and carried that the pres. immediately appoint a nominating committee. She nominated Mrs. Manson, chrm., Mrs. Allen + Ada. Park. Adj. coll. $1_30. Mrs. Mary Geneva Wilson's Funeral This Afternoon Mrs. Mary Geneva Wilson, widow of George T. Wilson, passed away at her home, 917 Center street, Friday, July 16. She would have been 84 years old on her next birthday, Oct. 5. Funeral services in charge of Rev. Chas. O. Whitely were held this afternoon at the First Friends church. Music was provided by Maxine Russell and Ruth Pierce, who were accompanied by Mrs. George c. Renaud. Pallbearers were Charles Russell, A. O. McDowell, Ed Adams, Fred McDowell, William Boyle and Harry Russell. Interment was in the Westfield cemetery. OBITUARY Mrs. Mary Geneva Wilson Mary Geneva Walton, daughter of George and Hargaret H. Walton, was born Oct. 5th, 1964, in Fulton county, Ill., and departed this life July 16, 1948, at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 11 days. She moved with her parents in 1872 to Missouri. In 1873 they moved to Kansas. Her parents passed away while living there. In 1882 she came to New Sharon. On July 30, 1883, she was united in marriage to George T. Wilson. To this union six sons were born, Neumen Floyd of Collins, Iowa, who passed away at the age of 39 years., William Harry, who died in infancy, Beryl C., who resides in Somona, Calif., Ralph Taylor of Nevada, Iowa, and Alford T., and George W. of Grinnell. At the age of 13 she was converted. She endeavored to rear her children in the way they should go. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson lived in Monroe county for 25 years. They moved to Wisconsin, residing there for 10 years. They then moved to Poweshiek county where they spent the remainder of their lives. Mr. Wilson preceded his wife in death April 23, 1935. She leaves, besides her four sons, one sister, Mrs. Helen H. King of New Plymouth, Idaho, 19 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren.
