February 1950 March 1950. [clipping] WCTU DISCUSSES CURRENT SENATE BILL Mrs. L. May Fleener was hostess Tuesday to the Women's Christian Temperance Union, and also led the devotions. Miss Ada Park presented the lesson on the assigned topic "Spreading the Light," and Mrs. A. W. McBlain presided. Mrs. McBlain reported that a petition signed by a long list of names had been sent by the Grinnell WCTU to senators from Iowa asking them to vote in favor of the bill, and that she had received a letter stating that the petition had been received. After the session, Mrs. McBlain and her staff of officers conducted a recognition service for the new members of the organization, and pinned a white ribbon bow on each. The hostess added to the recognition of new members by serving refreshments. Mrs. Fleener was assisted in serving by Mrs. C. E. Adkins and Mrs. Alice Fry. Mrs. McBlain and Mrs. J. R. Bartow poured. Mrs. A. W. McBlain went to malcom last Thursday to organize a Woman's Christian Union, starting with 21 pledged members from Malcom and Ewart communities. Mrs. Chas.
